The WTFosphere

Whatever The Function you need - the platform for anything

WTFosphere — Whatever The Function you need.

We built specific configurations: Saunosphere for wellness, Agrosphere for growing, Ergosphere for work, Immosphere for entertainment. These cover common use cases with tested configurations.

But the Thiosphere platform is more than these four options. The WTFosphere is our recognition that you might have ideas we haven't imagined.

This post explores what's possible when you take the base platform and configure it for... whatever you want.

The Platform Philosophy

The Thiosphere isn't a product. It's a platform.

A product solves a specific problem in a specific way. Buy this thing, use it as designed.

A platform provides capability. What you do with that capability is up to you.

The base Thiosphere provides:

  • Weather-protected enclosed space (~95 sq ft interior)
  • Insulated double-shell construction
  • Elevated platform (drainage, leveling, mobility)
  • Standard structural framework adaptable to many uses

What goes inside? That's where the WTFosphere comes in.

Configurations We've Seen

From early builders and inquiries, here are WTFosphere configurations people are actually building or planning:

Creative Spaces

Art studio: Natural light through windows, easy-clean floors for spills, large door for moving canvases, dedicated electrical for equipment.

Music practice room: Acoustic treatment for sound isolation, electrical for amplifiers, comfortable for long sessions, neighbors don't complain.

Podcast/recording studio: Acoustic treatment, equipment mounts, consistent controlled environment, professional appearance for video.

Photography studio: Backdrop mounts, controllable lighting, equipment storage, client-appropriate space.

Writing cabin: Minimal distractions, comfortable seating, natural light, dedicated space for creative work.

Wellness Variations

Yoga/meditation pod: Open floor space, calming aesthetic, climate control, separated from household chaos.

Cold plunge room: Waterproof interior, plunge tub, changing area, outdoor shower connection.

Home gym pod: Equipment-appropriate flooring, ventilation for exertion, dedicated space that's always ready.

Therapy office: Private, separate entrance, professional appearance, soundproofed for confidentiality.

Hobby Spaces

Workshop: Dust collection possible, electrical for power tools, durable floors, dedicated to making without taking over the garage.

Ham radio shack: Antenna mounts, equipment racks, RF-compatible construction, comfortable for long operating sessions.

Telescope dome: Modified roof for sky access, equipment storage, dark-sky compatible (no light pollution from windows).

Model railroad room: Large continuous surface, electrical for track, dedicated to the layout without taking over a basement.

Practical Spaces

Potting shed: Sink access, storage for tools and supplies, workspace for transplanting, seed starting area.

Tool storage: Secure, climate-controlled, organized storage for expensive tools vulnerable to theft or weather.

Guest house: Bed, minimal amenities, separate space for visitors (check local regulations on habitation).

Pet space: Dog grooming, cat sanctuary, separated from main house for allergy management or pet-dedicated comfort.

Commercial Applications

Retail kiosk: Point-of-sale location, display space, secure overnight closure, portable if needed.

Farm stand: Produce display, customer interaction area, weather protection, moveable with seasons.

Pop-up venue: Temporary installation for events, branded appearance, assembled and disassembled.

Things We Didn't Expect

Fancy dog house: Yes, someone built their dog a climate-controlled Thiosphere. The dog seems happy.

Chicken coop: Modified for poultry with ventilation, roosts, and egg collection access.

Storm shelter: Reinforced for weather protection (consult local requirements for rated shelters).

Kids' clubhouse: Play space separate from the house, a "room of their own" in the backyard.

How to Plan Your WTFosphere

If none of the standard configurations match your vision, here's how to approach a custom build:

1. Define the Function

Be specific. Not "creative space" but "pottery studio with wheel, kiln access, and clay storage." Not "hobby room" but "flight simulator with full cockpit, triple monitors, and motion platform."

The more specific your function, the clearer the configuration requirements become.

2. List Requirements

For your specific function, what do you actually need?

  • Electrical: How many circuits? What amperage? Special outlets?
  • Plumbing: Water access? Drainage? Wet area?
  • Climate: Heating requirements? Cooling? Humidity control?
  • Access: Door size? Accessibility? Equipment entry?
  • Flooring: Durable? Easy-clean? Soft? Anti-fatigue?
  • Walls: Workbench mounting? Acoustic treatment? Display?
  • Windows: Natural light? Privacy? Blackout capability?

3. Verify Fit

Does your configuration fit in the Thiosphere footprint?

  • Interior floor area: ~85 square feet usable
  • Height at center: ~10 feet
  • Heights at edges: ~7 feet (curved walls)
  • Door opening: Standard 36" or custom

Draw your layout to scale. Walk through the workflow. Make sure it works before building.

4. Consider the Base

Most WTFosphere configurations start with the standard Thiosphere structure, then modify the interior.

Review the base handbook. Understand what you're building. Then plan your modifications.

5. Consult the Community

Others have likely tackled similar configurations. The Discord has builders working on all kinds of projects.

Search the channels. Ask questions. Learn from what others have tried.

The SDK Concept

We sometimes call the Thiosphere the "SDK" — Spherical Development Kit.

In software, an SDK provides the building blocks for creating applications. The SDK author doesn't know what you'll build; they provide the tools and let you create.

The Thiosphere works the same way. We provide:

  • Structural system (the framework)
  • Documented construction process (the instructions)
  • Tested configurations (the examples)
  • Community support (the developer community)

What you build with it is your application.

The WTFosphere is our way of acknowledging that the best applications might be ones we never imagined.

Sharing Your WTFosphere

If you build something unusual, we want to know about it.

Document your build: Photos, configuration notes, what worked, what you'd do differently.

Share with the community: Post in Discord. Write a blog post. Let others learn from your experience.

Consider inclusion: Exceptional configurations might become official variants. Your dog house could become the "Petosphere." Your pottery studio could inform a future "Craftosphere" configuration guide.

The open-source model works because people share. Your WTFosphere build contributes to collective knowledge.

What We Won't Help With

A few boundaries on "whatever the function":

Illegal uses: We won't help you configure a structure for illegal activities. This includes grow operations for illegal substances (legal cannabis grows are a different conversation).

Unsafe configurations: Some modifications would compromise structural integrity or safety. We'll tell you if your idea is dangerous.

Habitation in violation of codes: Many areas have regulations about dwelling units. We're not helping you build unpermitted housing.

Within legal and safe boundaries, we're genuinely interested in creative applications. The weirder, the better.

The Invitation

The Saunosphere, Agrosphere, Ergosphere, and Immosphere are starting points.

If none of those match your vision, the WTFosphere is your invitation to imagine something new.

The platform is flexible. The designs are open. The community is supportive.
